Day 19 Reflection Deirbhile Seville 09/11/18
Professional teaching skills and ability. Visual Aids & Resources - what went well?
· 2nd Yr - After yesterday’s lesson when the host teacher approached me to tell me of a shocking incident that occurred between two pupils in the year group, the moral of the pupils was still low. I took it upon myself to be as attentive as I could be for the pupils as it was a hard time for all of them. As the lesson was embroidery it was a nice lesson for me to demonstrate, explain and for the pupils to lose themselves in their work. I gave extra one to one assistance to pupils whom were struggling and those who were firing ahead. I assisted the pupils using a visual aid and resource explaining the stitches which I think was extremely successful. Due to the situation of the pupils I think myself being extra helpful and being able to talk to the pupils comforted them and also gave them confidence in their work.
· 4th Yr – the PowerPoint including the information on how to set up a gallery/exhibition space was a great success. The resource I showed of the two spaces where the pupils could hang their work excited the pupils and got them so motivated that they were so productive. I think photo-shopping the pupils work into the spaces to give them an insight to what their exhibition could look like was a brilliant idea. I will try to do this in future as it gives pupils something to strive for, resulting in them achieving more.
Classroom management – What went well?
· Classroom management was great today with both groups. The second years were extremely placid allowing me to manage the group smoothly. In terms of managing materials I called each pupil up one by one and gave them numbered embroidery hoops and needles. This system has been working sufficiently and gives the pupils routine which I think prompts good classroom management.
