Day 30 Reflection 07/12/18 Deirbhile Seville
What went well and why – Professional teaching skills
2nd Year Collage – In this groups previous scheme I was unhappy with the standard of work, engagement and overall behaviour of certain pupils in the class. I decided to rearrange the room and create a new table group setting where I placed these pupils. I placed them closer to my desk and the interactive whiteboard to keep them focused. Since the knew collage scheme has started the pupils have gone full circle. They are now the most productive and focused in the class. The group have taken their ideas for collage and ran with them which was shocking but brilliant to see. The group are not only motivated themselves but are motivating other pupils in the class, giving suggestions on certain colours etc. Seeing little changes in pupils from the start of my placement to now are the most rewarding aspects of the job. Pupils whom once rejected art and myself as their teacher are now taking pride in their work and their own abilities.
Even better if – Classroom management
As the pupils were producing a collage they had homework to bring in old magazines and brochures to use for paper cuttings. Some pupils are very mature and focused on searching for the right colour whereas others became distracted and giddy reading articles from paper clippings. In future another possibility could be to use coloured sugar paper however this can make the work look flat unlike the glossy magazine look.
