Day 8 Reflection – 15/10/2018

Professional Teaching Skills and ability

· I began the lesson conducting a verbal recap with the pupils using visual aids on AEDPs (form). Pupils were very enthusiastic even though it was the last class of the day. I continued to push the higher order questions to evaluate if the pupils understood the positive side of plastic production in our society today. Pupils explained to me of the positive effects plastic production has on the medical world, patients and even the use of prosthetics in animals. The recap being so effective and insightful led into discussions naturally which I did not need to rely on the PowerPoint at all to encourage answers.

The Presentation of learning content

· The use of support studies and the correlation between what happens to plastic after it is recycled was very effective. The pupils were extremely engaged and used visual language to comment on the SS artist pieces based on the Art Element Texture.

· I had planned to ask pupils to draw the textures they felt in plastic primary sources however the class was delayed due to another teacher collecting assignments off the pupils and we did not have time to conduct the task. I explained the worksheet exercise and gave it for homework. However in future this type of exercise is vital and should have been conducted at the start of the lesson.

Classroom Management

· When pupils arrived I asked them to leave their bags and jackets on the tables at the back of the room. Take out their journals, art packs and pencil cases and take their seats.

· I had previously assigned certain groups and the pupils must sit in these for the duration of the lessons. This works to both the pupils advantage and to mine. I am able to know more about the pupils within the groups and they remain more focused.

· One group of pupils were being too chatty and causing some disruption in the room by not sitting in their allocated seats. I was assertive and spoke to one pupil explaining that they must remove themselves from the wrong table and move to their allocated one. The pupil listened and done as I had asked. This was a good example of effective classroom management and I was extremely satisfied with the handling of the situation.
